Most websites are happy to have their logo displayed on other websites, but there are also websites that seem to go out of their way to make it as difficult as possible. I don't get that, but that's me. Here are some of the reasons why a website may not be used by the SurfSpeed measurement:

Image protection

Some websites do not like it when their images are beiing deeplinked by other websites and use a referrer-based protection mechanism.

No suitable image

For example when the logo is split into multiple images, or when the image with the logo contains other pictures as well (for example a menu).

Logo is text

Some websites don't have a graphical logo, but use text instead. The measurement can only handle images.

Logo is a Flash movie

The measurement uses a signal generated by the browser when an image has finished loading. Flash movies use a plugin, and the plugin does not generate the signal.

Logo not recognised

There are lot's of languages I don't speak and sometimes I do not know which scribble-wiggle is the logo.

URL of logo unknown

It's not always easy to find the URL of an image. Some websites use very complex HTML with lot's of javascript and style sheets.

Webserver does not allow randomizing

Some webservers (most notably Google) do not allow a unique string to be added to the URL of images. The measurement does this to avoid the caching of images.

Image is encrypted

Some webservers encrypt everything with SSL. When these images are deeplinked they can cause the browser to popup a nasty and confusing warning message.

Too slow

The vast majority of websites are small websites hosted on free or low-cost servers. These are usually too slow to be measured. Large websites are sometimes too slow as well, victim to their own succes no doubt.

Invalid image

For stability reasons I only list images that are truly valid GIF, JPG, or PNG images.

Logo not on port 80

Some websites are too stingy to pay for an extra ip-address and use a free non-standard port instead. Totally stupid because most firewalls will block this traffic. To avoid problems I do not list these websites.

Image in database

Some websites store their images in a database instead of files on disk. The images are then fetched via a call to an ASP or PHP script. These scripts can usually not handle the randomizing string that the measurement adds.
